A519 4140 tube
American Piping Products stocks A519-4140 tube in the following grades:
- L80 and P110 heat treated mechanicals.
- OD from 2.375” to 12.750”.
- Walls from 0.375” to 1.500”.
Scope
ASTM A519 covers several grades of carbon and alloy steel seamless mechanical tubing. It is manufactured by hot working and then cold finishing the steel into round, square, rectangle or special shapes. AISI 4140 is a steel formula designation indicating medium carbon content with strengthening alloys that include chromium, manganese, silicon, molybdenum, sulfur and phosphorus.
AISI 4140 chemistry
Carbon % | 0.38 – 0.43 |
Manganese % | 0.75 – 1.00 |
Phosphorus, max % | 0.04 |
Sulfur, max % | 0.04 |
Silicon % | 0.15 – 0.35 |
Chromium % | 0.80 – 1.10 |
Molybdenum % | 0.15 – 0.25 |
Charpy V notch testing
Charpy V notch testing (CVN) is not required, but much of American Piping Products’ inventory is tested at the mill.
